Briefly, the adopted safety system, based on NOSA principles, seeks to ensure that the company operates within the confines of the Mine Health and Safety Act of 1996 and the Occupational Health and Safety Act of 1993. The system operates procedurally, which ensure that hazards and risks associated with our work are identified and minimized.Training programmes ensure that workers avoid possible injuries or fatalities occasioned by these hazards and risks. To ensure compliance to the laid down procedures, audits, inspections and task observations must be carried out. Non-conformances and analysis of incidents and accidents must be used to modify existing procedures and training manuals to ensure that the system remains alive and relevant. Maintain the Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate at zero.
Formalize the establishment of the national Health and Safety Committee and hold the first quarterly meeting in November 2004.
Implement a system, which encourages the reporting of near misses and unsatisfactory work conditions.
Consolidate the Health and Safety procedure manual into one coherent document, which can be audited by OSHAS in the 1st Quarter 2005.
